The prosecution of the R. Kelly case ended with a bang—the long-awaited, much-objected-to testimony of Lisa Van Allen, who not only ID’ed the girl on the tape with R. Kelly, but also said she’d had three-way sex with the pair!

The R. Kelly case has become a sobering account of a serial sex predator and child molester. Because of that, it’s hard to make jokes about the proceedings. That said, you gotta admire Kelly for following his dreams. He didn’t just want to have sex with young teens—he wanted threeways! The cost of the added thrill, however, as we are seeing, is that it leaves another witness trail.

Anyway, the defense takes over the court this week, so it’s a good time to look back at what we know thus far. As before, be forewarned that it’s all a little bit barfy:

The defense began the trial with a ringing declaration that R. Kelly had a distinctive mole on his lower back—and that the mole in question did not appear on the tape! (”If there is no mole, Kelly doesn’t go to the hole!” as the defense didn’t put it.)

But last Thursday, a video expert played the tape slowly for the jury and pointed out—there is a mole on the back of the man on the tape. The local press has not been playing up this angle, for some reason, but on the page it reads as one of the all-time legal screw-ups. It’s as if the defense read about the Great Glove Debacle in the O.J. Simpson trial, but didn’t quite apprehend that that incident rebounded to the defense’s benefit. As opposed to, you know, forever fastening in the jury’s mind a key bit of physical evidence that puts the defendant on the tape!

By Hitsville’s count, eleven people have so far identified Kelly or the girl on the tape. The prosecution was said to have dozens to choose from, but settled, apparently, on a lesser number. One: A Chicago Police investigator testified that he recognized the girl on the tape from talking to her in his ongoing investigation into Kelly’s involvement with young girls.

Two: Delores Gibson, a Chicago cop who was said to be married to a relative of the girl allegedly on the tape, ID’ed both Kelly and the girl as being on the tape.

Three: Simha Jamison, was a friend of the girl police say is on the tape; she said she and the girl met Kelly when they were about 12, and that her friend called Kelly “Godfather.” (She was identified that way on one of Kelly’s albums, as well.) She ID’ed Kelly and the girl on the tape.

Four: Jamison’s guardian, Peter Thomas, identified the girl as well.

Five: Stephanie “Sparkle” Edwards, the aunt of the girl allegedly on the tape, ID’ed the girl and Kelly.

Six: Bennie Edwards, Stephanie Edwards’ husband, ID’ed both.

Seven: Tjada Burnett, a neighbor, identified the girl as being on the tape.

Eight: Raven Gengler, a junior high classmate of the alleged girl on the tape, ID’ed the girl and Kelly.

Nine: Lindsey Perryman, at the time Kelly’s personal assistant, ID’ed Kelly and the girl as being on the tape.

Ten: Jacques Conway, a pastor, a retired police sergeant, and a neighbor of the girl alleged to be on the tape, ID’ed the girl.

Eleven: Lisa Van Allen, a former paramour of and dancer for Kelly, testified that she’d had group sex with Kelly and the girl, and ID’ed both Kelly and the girl as being on the tape.

Also from Allen, we learned that Kelly carried his sex tapes around in a duffel bag, which he kept with him, nuclear codes-style, at all times!

In other words, Kelly was dumb enough to film himself having sex with under-aged girls, but was also smart enough to have the dim realization that he probably wouldn’t want other folks to see them!

A lot of the sex referred to in the case took place in the so called “Log Cabin Room” of Kelly’s W. George St. home in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. It had distinctive wood paneling and a sauna.

A prosecution police witness said the walls on the sex videotape matched the walls in Kelly’s room, right down to the knots in the wood.

The house had an indoor basketball court. Van Allen testified that the three had had group sex on a futon on the floor of the basketball court, too!

Van Allen also testified that she had had a tape of herself and Kelly and the girl having sex, which after some bumbling criminal hijinks, she sold back to a Kelly associate for $20,000.

Van Allen also testified that here was a second tape of herself and Kelly having a ménage à trois with the under-aged girl in question. There was an attempt to film a third—on a futon set up on the court of Kelly’s basketball court—but since she started crying, Kelly put a halt to the proceedings. (Chicks crying is such a turn off!) But the other two were filmed. That brings to five the instances of alleged photographic evidence of Kelly having sex with allegedly under-aged girls. (Again, this is in addition to the dozen or so alleged instances of its happening but not necessarily filmed.) To wit:
The first is the video that resulted in the 14 child-porn charges against Kelly.

The second is another filmed sex act with what people who have seen it say was another girl, who has never been identified, which was circulated on street corners as part of the original Kelly sex tape. (This tape, to my knowledge, has not been introduced as evidence or even mentioned at the trial. mentioned at the trial.)

The third are the images on a digital camera police confiscated from Kelly’s home in Florida, but which were later ruled inadmissible in court by a judge.

The fourth was the threesome tape involving Van Allen, Kelly and the girl on the first tape was the subject of Van Allen’s long-awaited testimony.

The fifth is an additional tape Van Allen says was made of her, the girl and Kelly.
